April 1st marks the start of Autism Awareness Month, celebrated every year. Autism Spectrum Disorder is a spectrum of conditions that can affect an individuals ability to communicate, socialization skills and other behavioral tendencies. The way in which the disorders affect individuals differs in a multitude of ways, which is why it is referred to as a spectrum. Each person has their own unique challenges and strengths, to their own degree, in association with the disorder. It is estimated by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention that the prevalence is 1 in 68 children. The CDC estimates that 3.5 million Americans live with the disorder. This month is dedicated to spreading awareness and understanding of a condition that affects so many. At Haring Pediatric Dental, we understand that no child, no matter their condition, is the same. This is why we provide an array of opportunities to customize the treatment of your child to make it as comfortable as possible. If your child does require special accommodations, we are happy to work with you and accommodate to make their visit a great one. If this is your child’s first trip to the dentist, we offer a “familiarize” visit where your child can see the office, meet the staff and get to know the environment in which the appointment will occur. We are happy to work with you in providing anything that may help to comfort, such as a favorite book to read or show to watch during the appointment. At Haring Pediatric Dental, we strive to serve every patient with the individual attention they deserve. We will work with you to make your child’s dental experience a positive one!
